PVC saxophone "All of me", DIY instrument jazz
100% DIY PVC sax, with a PVC homemade mouthpiece, a PVC homemade reed, and a homemade copper wire ligature.
Unlike many attempts seen on Youtube, the bore is quasi-conical throughout the entire length and it overblows exactly an octave. Therefore, this is not a clarinet (the clarinet is cylindrical and overblows an octave plus a fifth).
Before building this version, I have struggled for 5 months to build and scrap two clarinets and two saxophones from pvc pipes, none of which was playable enough. So, it is a great pleasure for me to demonstrate this first, so-so playable model here at the end. In the meantime, no one else on Youtube seems to have succeeded in home-making a synthetic reed from the scratch. This sax may be called as mezzo-soprano (i.e. between soprano and alto) but I am not sure.

Sorry for my poor playing skill making the sound somewhat head-aching. I’m a drummer. I have no experience of melodic instruments, and have never even touched a real saxophone. But with this DIY saxophone in hand, I have started to practice basic scales and trad jazz standards. Check my other uploads. I hope to show some to you also at Ueno park, Tokyo Japan in the gigs of The Jazzboilers, a licensed street busker playing traditional New Orleans jazz monthly since 1995, where I mainly play tin-can-and-box drum kit as a leader of the band.
