TIA Portal ON Delay Timer Complete Tutorial
This video demonstrates how to use the ON delay timer instruction in TIA Portal. This TIA Portal tutorial also includes the ON delay timer's timing diagram and signal tracing for better understanding. This PLC programming tutorial uses the Siemens S7-1200 PLC.
The "Generate on-delay" instruction is used to introduce a time delay before activating the Q output. This delay begins when the input signal (IN) transitions from "0" to "1"—a rising edge. Once this transition occurs, the preset time (PT) starts counting. After the full duration of PT has passed, the Q output switches to "1". The output stays active as long as the input remains at "1". If the input signal drops from "1" to "0", the Q output is deactivated. The timer will reset and begin a new cycle when the next rising edge is detected at the input.
When the 'Tag_Start' signal changes from 0 to 1, the timer begins counting based on the preset time (PT). Once the set time elapses, the 'Tag_Status' changes to 1 and stays active as long as 'Tag_Start' remains at 1. The elapsed time during this period is recorded in 'Tag_ElapsedTime'. If the 'Tag_Start' signal switches back from 1 to 0, the 'Tag_Status' is reset.
