Microplastics are fragments of any type of plastic less than 5 mm (0.2 inches) in length, according to the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the European Chemical Agency. Approximately 51 trillion microplastics litter in our oceans due to improper management of plastics. Microplastics are present in the environment everywhere and make human exposure to it almost “inevitable. The video highlights on what exactly microplastics are, how they are formed, its occurrence in various systems including humans (blood, faeces and breastmilk) through food chain and health impacts of such microplastics on human health. Raising public awareness to pressure politicians and promoting laws that reduce pollution and support bioplastics are highly essential to solve this problem of microplastic menace.
