this is just one of many thing off my 2008 to 2014 50gb DVR HDD dump. i had to use pc linux to read the ext4 formatted ide drive.
so no dvd or vhs degraded recordings these are direct.
this is actually a really easy thing to do cause the .tsp mpeg files are readable without any conversion using vlc media player handbrake or staxrip.
all you need is a ide to usb converter device. pc linux or ubutu dvd or usb iso. or software driver that allows windows to natively read the ext4 formatted drive.
then just plug it in and use vlc to play the video files till you find what you want to import.
this only works with pre 2010 SD based dish receivers i have no idea if this works with tivo or direct tv receivers but id image its not very different process.
so if you have an old DVR tucked away that still works get it out and dump that content :P
