My approach to making new music lately has been to do projects that my kids can always have to remember me by. I want them to be proud that I’m their dad. This September I started trying to think of cool projects I could do this year for Christmas. I asked my good friend Matt Nickle if he could come up with a cool arrangement for “The Little Drummer Boy”. A couple of weeks later he played me a rough sample of what he had come up with, and I loved it right away. What really sold me on it was when I heard the “Peace on Earth” part. I immediately thought of my 10 yr old son, Leka who is featured on the track and how cool it would be to do a project with him that would last forever.
The concept of the video was something that my wife, Mona and I immediately agreed on. We wanted to show the Little Drummer Boy (played by Leka) getting ready in his best clothes to go and offer up his best gift/talent to the Newborn King. We also wanted to showcase other beautiful children and their talents going to do the same thing.
I think all of us at one point or another has felt inadequate in some aspect of our lives because we compare ourselves to what others are doing, but all our Savior really wants from us is to be the best WE can be. The Little Drummer Boy represents all of us and our desires to give our best. Merry Christmas.
