Armiga Update! How to Update your Armiga, AGA Games Support and New Features in Armiga v0.9
Here's my Armiga update video! First, let's go over how to update the Armiga manually. By updating your Armiga to v0.9 you'll fix bugs, unlock fantastic Amiga 1200 AGA game support and there's some new features which make updating worthwhile.
To automatically update your Amiga, just plug an Ethernet cable into the back of the unit and The Armiga will update itself. To manually update the Armiga, eject the MicroSD card from the back of the unit and drop the Armiga update file (available via email or from armigaproject.com) into the update folder. Then put the MicroSD card back into the Armiga, turn it back on and bravo - the Armiga will start the update process.
Fixing bugs and boosting the unit's AGA support is reason enough to update your Armiga. New features in v0.9 include controller button mapping which is excellent. If you have a retro pad or a pad which is a bit unorthodox you might find the Armiga assigns inputs to the wrong buttons. Being able to manually assign button maps to your controller has made the Armiga an even more viable purchase in my mind.
The main reason you'll be updating your Armiga is for AGA support. Adding the Amiga 1200 library of games is going to boost what was already a decent emulation product. AGA support is accessed from the Armiga's power menu and needs to reboot in Amiga 1200 mode. Once this is done, nearly every AGA Amiga game you can throw at it will work.
I'm certainly no AGA or Amiga expert. If you have some specific hardware questions I might not be able to answer them. I'm reviewing this product as a consumer and for that purpose it's great fun.
One last note - I was asked if the Armiga would work with the Steam Controller. And it does work with the Steam Controller! I could only get the controller working over USB, but it seemed to be recognised as a mouse so worked really well for quite a few Amiga games.
