Pfsense Home Configuration with Recommended Package Installation
This video is voice oriented tour to my home Pfsense firewall. It shows how to set up Pfsense to complete following targets:
1. Proxy home Internet access
2. Filter certain categories such as gambling, porn, game sites.
3. Whitelist certain sites such as Chess sites from game category
4. Transparent configuration to all devices. No manual certificates, proxy configuration on clients. This is special convenient for my guest users.
5. Time based filtering and whitelisting
6. Web Dynamic Network Performance Statistic
Here are some packages I used to complete my tasks:
1. darkstat
2. Lightsquid
3. Squid
4. SquidGuard
Other optional packages:
1. Open-VM-Tools. I used this since I am using Virtual Machine for Pfsense
2. pfBlockerNG . It can be used to block adverts and geographic blocking
3. ntopNG : much powerful network usage statistic tools
