When warmer weather arrives, dog owners, especially those with long hair, have more work to do. First, seasonal shedding begins. Second, the dustier the weather outside, the more often you have to wash your dog. Today, the specialists at the Manifik pet salon will tell you how to care for your pet's coat during the warmer months.

Seasonal shedding is a normal process for dogs. Typically, it occurs twice a year (in spring and fall) and lasts several weeks. Long-haired dogs require brushing year-round, as their outer coat is constantly shedding. However, during the seasonal shedding period, this process is more intense and therefore more noticeable.

In spring, dogs lose their thick, long hair, and the undercoat becomes softer and sparser.

Your task during this period is to thoroughly brush your pet. Short-haired dogs also require grooming. For this, you'll need a soft, natural-bristle brush or a special rubber glove. However, with long-haired dogs, a brush alone won't suffice.

After a good, long brushing, the dog should be washed. Use only special shampoos. Don't wash your dog with your own shampoo, even the most expensive and high-quality one. Firstly, the structure of human hair and that of a dog's coat are significantly different. Secondly, the skin's pH balance is also different. After washing with a low-quality or inappropriate shampoo, your pet may develop dandruff, their coat may become brittle, and their skin may become excessively dry.

A hygienic grooming is beneficial for any long-haired dog. This grooming removes excess hair from the hips and tail, and also trims the hair between the paw pads. While in winter this procedure helps reduce the amount of snow stuck to the paws, in spring it reduces the amount of dirt. If necessary, excess hair from the ears is removed during a grooming session. Teeth are also brushed and nails trimmed.
