After Effects Tips & Tricks Part 1

Copy Expression Only
1. Toggle open a property that already has an expression applied.
2. Go up to Edit - Copy Expression Only.
3. Select a property that does not have an expression applied.
4. Hit the stopwatch to set a keyframe.
5. Paste the expression into the new property using Cmd-V (Mac) / Ctrl-V (PC)
Reordering Layers
1. Shift-select all the layers in the desired order.
2. Cmnd-X (Mac) / Ctrl-X (PC) to cut them.
3. Ctrl-V (Mac) / Ctrl-V (PC) to paste them. The layers will now be in the new order.
Spatial Interpolation
1. Select two keyframes.
2. Right-click on either keyframe and navigate to Keyframe Interpolation.
3. In the first dropdown menu, select Spatial.
4. Click OK.
Edit Original
1. In the Project Panel, select any Illustrator or Photoshop asset.
2. Go up to Edit - Edit Original.
3. The original file will open in its respective software. Make any desired alterations to the asset in the software.
4. Save the asset in the software.
5. Go back to After Effects. After a few seconds, the asset will be updated to reflect the changes.
Time Reverse
1. Right-click on any layer with keyframes.
2. Go to Time - Time Reverse Layer.
3. This technique will flip the entire layer around in the Timeline, so it plays backward. Note that untrimmed layers will likely have their keyframes placed at the end. To avoid this, trim layers before reversing them.
Sequence Layers
1. Shift-select several layers.
2. Right-click on any selected layer.
3. Navigate to Keyframe Assistant - Sequence Layers. Doing this will order the layers in succession. Like the Time Reverse technique, trim the layers beforehand to avoid extra long sequences.
