What is density?
Density refers to the mass of a substance per unit volume and is usually represented by the symbol (rho). Mathematically:

Its unit is usually or in the SI system. Density is one of the fundamental physical properties used to determine whether a substance is pure or a mixture and to determine its properties.
Who discovered density?
The systematic use of the concept of density dates back to the ancient Greek philosopher Archimedes. Archimedes developed a method for calculating the density of an object using the principle of buoyancy. He is famous for detecting the fraud in a golden crown thanks to "Archimedes' Principle."
How is density measured?
Density measurement is generally performed using the following methods:
1. For Solids:
• Volume Displacement: The solid object is immersed in water, and the volume of water displaced is measured to calculate density.
• Digital Density Meter: The mass and volume of the solid are measured with digital devices.
2. For Liquids:
• Hydrometer: Measures the density of the liquid by immersion in the liquid.
• Digital Density Meter: Used for precise measurements.
3. For Gases:
• Density is calculated from the formula by measuring the volume and mass of the gas. Precise equipment is generally required.
In a laboratory setting, a pycnometer, digital densimeter, or more advanced devices can be used to measure density.
