In 1929, Hungarian author Frigyes Karinthy was the first to put forth the concept of “six degrees of separation”, in his short story, “Chains”. This is the notion that through “friend of a friend” connections, any two people on the earth can be connected in six steps or less. With our modern information culture, social media, and the seemingly ever-shrinking world, this idea is likely more true now than it has ever been.

Earlier this week, the very kind SleepStories ASMR tagged me in Gibi ASMR’s recent “25 Questions Challenge”, and as it turns out, YouTube tag challenges are fun micro-examples of the “six degrees” concept in action. So, before I get into Gibi’s questions in this video, I spend a little time playing “Six Degrees of Gibi ASMR”, and explore the steps that separate Gibi and me through the connections in this tag challenge. I hope you enjoy it!

If you want to see direct evidence of how this tag is propagating through our community, search YouTube for “asmr tag” every couple of days, and look at the artists who have put up recent videos to answer these questions, and to tag others. It is a great way to find creators you haven’t seen yet!

Thanks so much to SleepStories ASMR for inviting me to take part in this challenge. Please do check out her channel at the link below.

Below are my own tags, timestamps, and links to things I reference in this video. Thanks, as always, for being here, friends.
