Conservative Vector Fields & Potential Functions
Calculus 3 video on how to find a potential function of a conservative vector field. We show you how to determine if a vector field is a gradient field and, if so, how to calculate its potential function. We explain how to use partial derivatives to determine if a field is a conservative vector field. Then we show how to integrate and choose unique terms in order to find the potential function for the gradient field. We explain the process with 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional vector fields and work examples of both types.
