Full Factory Restoration of the 1967 VW Beetle “Annie”
In December 1967, Kathleen Brooks purchased her first beetle. A red 1967 model she quickly named "Annie". Since then, Annie has been Kathleen's daily transport, racking up more than 350,000 miles over 51 years, or enough to circle the globe 14 times, and Kathleen, now 73, still drives Annie to work.
After reading about Kathleen and Annie's intimate partnership last year, the North American Division of Volkswagen launched an unprecedented effort to restore Annie at the factory of the Beetle's North American home in Puebla, Mexico. A team of some 60 Volkswagen workers and trainees reworked Annie back to factory-quality specifications during the past 11 months, with many custom touches that honor the commitment of Kathleen. Kathleen and Annie were reunited, and Kathleen met with core Volkswagen team members who were leading the renovation.
