Envoy Proxy: Forward vs. Reverse Proxy
A forward proxy is a client-side proxy. So basically, a client is connecting to a proxy. The proxy is upstream of you, so you’re connecting to a proxy. In a reverse proxy, the proxy is downstream, connecting to you.
