The beating heart of a supercell is the mesocyclone.

A mesocyclone is a rotating column of air within a thunderstorm, typically associated with supercell storms. It forms when wind at different altitudes changes speed and direction, creating a horizontal vortex that gets tilted upright by the storm’s updraft. This rotation can lead to severe weather phenomena like large hail, damaging winds, and sometimes tornadoes.

In this video we're going to learn about this feature of supercells, and how they affect the entire storm.
