Please read this description for a bit more info.
The microphone I used to record this video is the microphone on the PC38X. It is not detachable, but you can mute it by sliding it up into the mute position as shown in one of the images.
To summarize: I don't recommend the PC38X in 2025 mainly because of its price, as well as the fact that the company has shut down or is in the process of selling the rest of their inventory. However, I think the vast majority of people who aren't audiophiles will be happy with their purchase if money is no object (in this economy???) and they don't care about long-term support of the headset. It's hard to find a quality, satisfying, reasonably priced gaming headset these days, so while I wouldn't recommend it... the PC38X might nevertheless still be worth weighing against other options.

When I mentioned the velour ear pads, mine came in the box and I had to install them. They did not come already installed. But it was a fairly quick and easy process.
I forgot to mention that I had more issues with the HyperX Cloud II durability; right out of the box, the adjuster on one ear didn't hold/lock position very well. That is another reason why I scored it around 6.5 out of 10 in that category. I said that I owned a HyperX Cloud II for ten years, but I bought a second pair during that time, so it's possible that second pair (with the durability issue) was right after Kingston sold HyperX to HP.
The yellow and black version of the PC38X is almost $220 on Amazon for some reason, whereas the all-black is $180. I have no idea why this is the case—if I had to guess, they're in the process of selling the remainder of the units and are trying to squeeze everything they can out of the situation.
There are other pros and cons to open versus closed back headsets (and vice versa) but this would be better explained by somebody more knowledgeable than myself. It has something to do with soundstage I think, whatever that means.
I have not and will not monetize this video. I do not own the images or gifs used for the purposes of this product review. Again, I have no sponsorships or partnerships with any company at the time of making and uploading this video.
Thanks so much for watching. I really hope it is helpful to someone. I'd like to hear what others have to say in the comments.
