I love the Orville. Its one of my all time favourite shows. I've seen every episode multiple times, and as much as I love Star Trek too, I can't say the same thing for that franchise.
In this video I mention many of the great captains of Star Trek. Captain Kirk, Captain Picard, Captain Pike, Captain Janeway, Captain Sisko, Captain Archer and ask the audience the question: Does Ed Mercer stack up?
I say he doesn't. I say that he has many great qualities that could make him a great captain someday, but too many flaws he needs to work on in the meantime.
