Aim
To draw the voltage current characteristics of the PN junction diode and to determine its Knee voltage and forward resistance.
Procedure
Forward Bias characteristics
1. The circuit is wired as in the diagram
2. The forward voltage Vf increased from zero insteps of 0.1V upto 1.0 V
3. The corresponding values of If are noted.
4. A graph is drawn with Vf along X axis and If along Y axis.
5. This is called forward characteristic curve.
6. The reciprocal of the slope of this curve above the knee point is found as resistance of the diode.
Reverse Bias characteristics
1. The circuit is wired as in the diagram
2. The reverse voltage VR increased from zero insteps of 1V upto 6 V
3. The corresponding values of IR are noted.
4. A graph is drawn with VR along X axis and IR along Y axis.
5. This is called reverse characteristic curve.
