CCP changed other weapon sounds, too, and many players are complaining about this.
I am a very acoustically inclined person, so to speak, so this not only makes me facepalm, but also pains me down to my guts. With CCP's mission designers' apparent lack of understanding how to create immersion in a game, the battle sounds were one of the highlights that made a huge difference. Now I tried the game again and was confronted with a few minor improvements, lots of old and very annoying basic stuff still not fixed, and some things made worse.
