Zapatero's betrayal of Spain with ETA: historic records come to light
In 2006, ETA announced a permanent ceasefire, but the documents released today tell a different story. According to the minutes of the meetings between representatives from Moncloa and terrorists, the Zapatero government offered funding through international organizations, asked France to ease police pressure, tried to halt the arrests of ETA members, and even changed ministers and prosecutors to avoid upsetting the group.
The result: a humiliating negotiation that broke down after the Terminal 4 attack, in which two people of Ecuadorian origin died.
