4 AutoCAD Tips to Reduce Lag and Improve Performance
Anyone notice that AutoCAD seems more 'laggy' compared to Revit? That seems very counter-intuitive to me.
In this video, I cover some tips to reduce lag and improve overall performance in AutoCAD. I'm using GstarCAD at the moment, but all the tips apply to AutoCAD as well.
Much of what I cover involves pre-planning or at the very least, keeping organized. I briefly discuss dealing with 'bad drawings' - probably the worst productivity killer out there, but that would require a completely separate video to cover in any real detail.
For all you busy people, my 4 Tips are:
Using multiple smaller drawings instead of 1 large drawing;
X-Ref management (avoidance, or not including several large ones in the same file);
Wipeouts - How to deal with them and also a good work-around to eliminate them from your standards;
And Workspace Management - How to open/close the ribbon and some other suggestions.
My 'bonus tip' is transparency. This use to be a big cause of lag, but with faster computers it's not as big of a deal as it used to be.
