1930s Vintage Broken Hand Crank Drill Press Restoration (Two-Speed)
I bought this drill from the market. When I tried to find information about it, I learned that this drill was manufactured around the 1930s. This drill is broken in several places. Due to rust, the chuck has become very stiff. Because it was not oiled, operating it became very difficult, and the drill is completely jammed.
In this video, I will fully restore this drill.
To begin the restoration, first I disassembled all of its parts. I then washed all the parts to remove grease from them. After that, I picked up the central main body of the drill, which was broken. I removed its paint, carried out sandblasting, welded the broken area, did some filling work, applied 2K primer, and then painted it with 2K black paint.
After that, I started working on the base of the drill. First, the base was sandblasted. Due to over-drilling, there are drilling marks on the base. To fill these marks, I carried out welding. After that, I gave the drilling base a Scotch-Brite finish and painted the remaining areas with 2K black paint.
After this, I started restoring the drill head. I sandblasted it, buffed the head finish and nickel-plated it, and painted the inner side with 2K black paint.
After that, I started working on the main axle rod on which the drill is mounted. First, the rod was sandblasted, then sanded, and finally buffed and polished.
After this, all the small parts, such as nuts and bolts, were buffed and nickel-plated, and the parts that required paint were painted. After restoring all the parts, I assembled the machine.
After assembling the machine, the result I saw gave me great happiness. Then I tested this drill, and it is now working in a truly excellent manner.
