I've been promising a mod envelope tutorial for some time now. Today is the day and I thought I would do it in a fun way. Instead of going through every single parameter, I thought it would be interesting to design a patch.
The Berlin School sequences are based on quick repeated notes. These are known at ratchets. Omnisphere has this already built into the arpeggiator section and calls them step dividers, but it provides limited control over the repeats.
In this tutorial I show you how can use the mod envelopes to create a ratchet effect. We go from the basic waveform through to the completed patch. This includes a baseline with a little light percussion all in one key press. This will help you design patches that add some groove to your sound.
