The 18th César Awards ceremony—also known as the César Night—honoring films released in 1992, took place on March 8, 1993, at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées. It was presided over by Marcello Mastroianni and broadcast on France 2. This ceremony was marked by the death, a few days earlier, of Cyril Collard, director of Savage Nights. This film, which until then had mainly achieved critical acclaim, triumphed at the ceremony, winning four major awards. These accolades ensured the film's great success upon its re-release in theaters. Indochine, which the press had considered a favorite for this ceremony, nevertheless won five awards and, most notably, received the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film a few weeks later.
