Propaganda textiles are a vibrant, distinctive trend in fabric design, characteristic exclusively of the domestic textile industry. They include fabrics produced in Soviet Russia from the 1920s to the mid-1930s. Their patterns are radically different from Art Nouveau ornaments. Despite their ideological orientation, they were a sincere creative experiment in implementing constructivist ideas in fabric design. Why, then, after such a remarkable rise, were agitational textiles mercilessly criticized and consigned to oblivion? What are their ideological and stylistic features? Nadezhda Filippova, chief curator of the V.I. A.N. Kosygina.
