Proverbs of Solomon
Chapter 11
1 A false scale is an abomination to the Lord,
But a just weight is His delight.
2 When pride comes, then comes shame;
But with the humble is wisdom.
(The righteous, when he dies, leaves behind regret,
But sudden and joyful is the destruction of the wicked.)
3 The integrity of the upright will guide them,
But the craftiness of froward men will destroy them.
4 Riches profit nothing in the day of wrath,
But righteousness will deliver from death.
5 The righteousness of the upright will make his way straight,
But the wicked will fall by his own wickedness.
6 The righteousness of the upright will deliver them,
But the wicked will be caught in their own wickedness. 7 When a wicked man dies, hope vanishes,
and the expectation of the unrighteous perishes.
8 The righteous is delivered from trouble,
but the wicked falls into it in his stead.
9 With his lips the hypocrite destroys his neighbor,
but the righteous are delivered by knowledge.
10 When the righteous prospers, the city rejoices,
and when the wicked perish, there is shouting.
11 By the blessing of the righteous the city is exalted,
but by the mouth of the wicked it is destroyed.
12 A man void of understanding despises his neighbor,
but a man of understanding keeps silence.
13 He who goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets,
but a faithful man conceals a matter.
14 Where there is no counsel, the people fall,
but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.
15 He who is surety for a stranger brings evil upon himself,
But he who hates surety is secure.
16 A gracious wife obtains honor (to her husband,
but a wife who hates justice is the height of dishonor.
The sluggards are poor),
but the industrious get riches.
17 A merciful man does good to his own soul,
but the cruel man destroys his own flesh.
18 The wicked works a deceitful work,
but to him who sows righteousness there is a sure reward.
19 Righteousness leads to life,
but he who pursues evil pursues his own death.
20 Those who are perverse in heart are an abomination to the Lord,
but he delights in those who are blameless in their way.
21 Surely the wicked will not go unpunished,
but the seed of the righteous will be delivered.
22 Like a gold ring in a swine's snout,
so is a beautiful woman, but she who is without discretion. 23 The desire of the righteous is only good,
The expectation of the wicked is wrath.
24 There is one who scatters generously, and yet increases;
Another is over-thrifty, and yet grows poor.
25 The generous soul will be satisfied,
and whoever waters will be watered himself.
26 He who withholds grain will be cursed by the people,
but on the head of him who sells it will be a blessing.
27 He who pursues good will find favor,
but he who seeks evil, to him it will come.
28 He who trusts in his riches will fall,
but the righteous will flourish like a leaf.
29 He who troubles his own house will inherit the wind,
and the fool will be servant to the wise in heart.
30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life,
and he who wins souls is wise. 31 Thus the righteous will be recompensed on earth,
how much more the wicked and the sinner.
