Transposing | Modular Composing | Episode 07
I had this melody in my head (inspired by Star Trek The Movie) and I wanted to try and patch it up. I used Westlicht Performer, ran into bugs and 'song position' issues again so I would have been better off with using NerdSeq. This is because the main sequence is a bar of six notes, 1/16. (dotted) signature and the transpose by CV is one tick too late. The six notes repeat twice, and are then transposed down 4 semitones. Nothing fancy, but NOT easy to set up with the 'wrong' sequencer. I could have used a 1/4. (dotted) two note sequence for it. Anyway, Westlicht dropped a few spots on my favorite sequencer list.
If you read the text above I can imagine you having a Que/Wtf moment, but transposing is fun and it's super easy with some help from 'analog memory' like Pressure Points, 0-Ctrl or any utility that helps you select a number of fixed CV values. Then, suddenly, Westlicht only repeats six notes and the transpose is your manual responsibility. You could add a Brains if you'd want to automate it. But PP offers so many hands-on control, it actually feels like you're composing.
