Sonic the Hedgehog, Sega's famous mascot, has taken on many different roles through his games, but nothing as bizarre as "Sonic.exe". Produced by a fan nicknamed "MY5TCrimson", the game is based on a horror tale created by another fan known as "JC-the-Hyena". Learn more about the strange history of Sonic.exe.

The original story, created in 2011 by "JC-the-Hyena", is part of a style of horror tale known as "creepypasta", in which successful franchises such as Mario, The Legend of Zelda and Pokémon are reimagined in the light of a supernatural event. Sonic.exe has several characteristics of this genre and even clichés.
The plot follows a teenager who receives a mysterious, perhaps cursed, CD with "Sonic.exe" written on it. When starting to play, he realizes that it is not possible to control Sonic, only the supporting characters Tails, Knuckles and the villain Eggman. When starting with the characters, each one is faced with a scene where a Sonic with a scary look apparently kills them.
