Central European Road Trip Itinerary: 7 days through Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, & Italy

What You Need to Know to Plan a Road Trip Through Central Europe
You need to buy both driving and travel insurance
Your credit card insurance may not cover certain countries, double-check this
Make sure to have money in small change and coins in all the currencies that you plan to visit, some places won't take card and won't break large bills
Some countries may require an International Driver's License, but others may only require your US Driver's License
Google Maps is not always super accurate, but you should download an offline map of your route just in case you lose reception
You can also purchase a physical map if you don't have an EU sim card
How to Save Money on Your Trip
Gas is most expensive in city centers, expressways, and near airports
The cost of gas varies between countries as well
Rent a smaller, more gas-efficient vehicle for cheaper gas and easier parking
Europeans take their vacations according to school schedules, so check these in advance so you can travel outside of those times and save money on accommodation
Use cities as bases to take day trips from so you aren't constantly on the road, staying at one hotel for multiple days can often be a better deal than moving every night
How Much Did We Spend on Gas?
We spent around 600 euros on gas during the 7 days, however, our car is a bit bigger than the average European car. We drove a petrol M440i.
How to Plan Your Budget
The price of your trip will vary a lot depending on which season you choose. The shoulder season (April-May, September-October) will be more affordable and less crowded.
How Much Should Accommodation Cost
Around 100-150 euros per night in city centers. I recommend you book at least 3-4 months in advance.
Day 1: Prague, Czech Republic
How to Travel Around Prague:
Prague is very walkable, so if you love to walk this is the best option! There are also great metro lines that connect the city, and a public transportation pass for 24 hours would only cost 5 USD.
Day 2: Prague
Day 3: Driving through Germany, Austria, to Northern Italy (Sarentino)

I recommend paying a bit more for parking in Italy so you can park in a covered lot, where you won't be worried about your car getting broken into and it will make your trip more relaxing not having to search for parking.
