NWTF 365 : Studying Unhunted Turkeys in South Carolina
A study in South Carolina is trapping unhunted wild turkeys and fitting them with transmitters so researchers can study how to best structure hunting seasons. This isn't just any turkey population though. Twenty years ago, birds from this area were part of the successful trap and transfer efforts that helped reestablish wild turkey populations across the US. The nearly 200,000-acre Savannah River Site is owned by the Department of Energy and touches Aiken, Barnwell and Allendale counties.
