Brettski strutted through the gold-trimmed doors of Starburst Casino, sunglasses on even though it was midnight. It was *Wheel Wednesday*, and his camera operator, Jax, hurried behind him, whispering that the comments section had gone feral this week. Brettski grinned. “Perfect.”
He set up the camera beside his trademark prop: a giant, neon-rimmed prize wheel plastered with fan-submitted gambling dares. Some were harmless—*$5 on red*, *try craps blindfolded*. Others were… less so—*bet your shoes*, *let a stranger pick your game*, *only speak in rhymes until you win big*. Brettski loved the chaos.
He spun the wheel. It clicked, slowed, then landed on a brand-new submission: **THE MIRROR GAMBIT**. Brettski frowned. “Did you put that on there?” Jax shook his head. They hadn’t seen it before. Still, the rules were simple—play whatever game appears in the first reflective surface you pass.
Brettski shrugged and marched forward. The first reflective thing he saw was the chrome side of an antique slot machine tucked deep in a corner of the casino floor. Odd—he didn’t remember that machine being there. Its lights were dimmer, almost flickering, as if waking up after a long sleep. Above the reels, a tiny engraved plate read: **ONE PULL ONLY**.
“Now that’s spooky branding,” Brettski joked, brushing off a shiver. He fed a solitary dollar into the slot. The machine chimed—a sound too deep, too resonant for something so old. Brettski gripped the lever and pulled.
The reels spun, faster than any slot he’d ever played. The lights around him dimmed. A low rumble shook the floor. Jax shouted something, but the sound warped, distant. The reels stopped—three symbols Brettski had never seen before, like geometric runes.
Then the machine spoke.
“You shouldn’t have come back, Brettski.”
The casino lights cut out.
And the camera kept rolling.
