Linear regulators have been around for a long time, but a lot has changed since the days of the classic 78xx series. Modern ICs not only promise ever smaller differential voltages (LDOs), but also continuously improve their quiescent current performance. I bought one of these more modern models to test – and for added challenge, I chose the DFN1010 package, which is optimized for applications with very limited space.
