The trick to becoming the threat is to be very aware of your surroundings by using a headset and listing for other players movements and trying to zero in on them as quick as possible while trying to remain hidden. Also if someone does get the drop on you try to in get cover, hold your ground and fight back immediately. The Gewehr 3 SG1 is my preferred tool. Portable single detectors help locate people and if you have a armored plate bring one. Dont forget healing items and caffine.
