DARTMOOR NATIONAL PARK
Dartmoor National Park is Britain's most westerly national park. It is located in Devon, with its nearest point to Plymouth being just over 6 miles and its nearest point to Exeter also being just over 6 miles. The area is mainly moorland, however there are a number of wooded areas such as Bellever Forest and the Dart Valley. Dartmoor National Park covers an area of 368 square miles with its highest point being Hill Willhays at 2,039 feet above sea level, giving it also the claim as the highest point in the South-West.
Dartmoor was one of four national parks which were granted national park status in 1951. Other national parks which were granted national park status in 1951 are the Peak District in Derbyshire, Lake District in Cumbria, and Snowdonia in Gwynedd.
