As athletes you will get injured which would obviously cause acute pain. Unfortunately if not attended to could develop into chronic pain which you want to be able to prevent. Great thing is there are many ways to prevent chronic pain. Believe it or not a big factor in the cause of chronic pain is your brain. Psychological problems are a huge contributing factor of chronic pain such as :stress, you hate your job, unfruitful or bad relationships and depression. A good way to get through chronic pain is through a psychologist and participating in cognitive behavior therapy.
