What if a robot’s brain wasn’t made of wires… but air?

In this episode, we take a deep dive into microfluidic soft robotics and build a fully 3D-printed walking robot with its own built-in, air-powered control system.
It all starts with a transparent FDM-printed microfluidic chip — think of it like a sci-fi circuit board for air. Then we add a tiny rotary valve that acts as the mechanical brain, sequencing airflow with rhythmic precision. From there, we injection mold some squishy silicone muscles, slap on a few legs, and watch it come to life.
No solenoids. No Arduino flipping relays. Just pressure, vacuum, and a 3D-printed rotary valve.
And yes — it has googly eyes.
Because science is better with a little personality.
Whether you're into soft robotics, 3D printing, microfluidics, mechanical logic, or just want to see a strange little creature waddle across the table, this one's for you.
