Do you struggle with impulse spending?
I get it. I've been there. And I know what it's like.
I struggled a LOT with impulse buying when I was in my early 20s and it's no surprise that the struggle came at the same time that my mental health was struggling as well.
The reason I impulse spent money all the time was because I wanted so desperately to feel something other than the constant anxiety and depression I felt all the time.
And spending?
Spending gave me this quick hit of dopamine that would momentarily make me feel better.
But the thing is? Impulse spending would usually lead me to feel worse than what I originally felt, because me not being able to get my money in order caused me even more stress and anxiety.
So how do we get off this hamster wheel?
We have to find ways to break the cycle and here are my biggest tips for how to do that.
1. Make a feel-good list.
A feel good list is going to be the basis for all the tips in this video. It's INCREDIBLY important, so don't skip this step.
A feel-good list is a list of all the things we do or used to do that make us feel good.
Your list can include anything-- mine includes blasting music and dancing, taking Logan for a walk, cleaning my apartment, meditation. Make a list of all the things that make you feel good, and if you're having a hard time thinking of what makes you feel good now? Try to think of what USED to make you feel good.
This list is so important because we're going to use it as a list of coping mechanisms you can do INSTEAD of impulse buying.
