The Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) is a psychological assessment tool used to evaluate a person's emotions, underlying motives, and thought patterns. It was developed by Henry A. Murray and Christiana D. Morgan in the 1930s.
How TAT Works
The test consists of a set of ambiguous pictures, usually black-and-white illustrations or photographs, depicting people in various situations.
The person taking the test is asked to create a story about each picture, describing:
What is happening?
What led up to the event?
What the characters are thinking/feeling?
How the situation will end?
Purpose of TAT
TAT is used to uncover deep-seated thoughts, emotions, and personality traits. It helps in:
