VW has FINALLY put the GTI name to an EV – and it’s not the Golf! Introducing the VW ID Polo GTI, the first electric hot-hatch from Volkswagen and a rival to the Alpine A290. Watch as Jake Groves gets his hands on a preview of the finished car.
The GTI name is one of the most recognizable in the automotive world. No hot-hatch conversation is complete without a reference to Volkswagen’s performance sub-brand and now, for the seventh-gen Polo, we’ve got an electric GTI. UK deliveries won’t start until 2027, but customers can look forward to a 52kWh battery, front-wheel drive layout, 223bhp and adaptive dampers as standard.
