When were the first robots, replicants and automatons invented and created? Most people would assume that the first self-propelled machines and mechanized statues were invented in the Middle Ages. But could it be that the idea, the concept of automatons, could have appeared much earlier? Robots are surprisingly ancient, dating back to the myths of classical Greece and even further back: to ancient Babylon, China, India and even the pre-Columbian cultures of Mesoamerica. It turns out that 2,500 years ago, some ancient Greek myths already suggested how artificial life could be created: robot servants, realistic copies of people and animals, and even artificial intelligence.
