The Greatest Car I’ve Ever Driven. The Mercedes-AMG ONE is not just another hypercar. It is a genuine Formula 1-derived hybrid road car — powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 based on the 2016 F1 World Championship engine, combined with full E Performance hybrid architecture. And I drove it on the Nürburgring GP Circuit.

This is the 1,063hp Mercedes #AMGONE: 275 units worldwide, £3 million each, and arguably the most ambitious road car ¢AMG has ever built. It uses an electric exhaust turbocharger (MGU-H), a crankshaft-mounted motor (MGU-K), twin front-axle electric motors, and an 8.4kWh high-performance battery — all working together through AMG Performance 4MATIC+. But the internet says it’s flawed:

Too heavy at 1,695kg.
Too expensive.
Too complex.
Too costly to maintain.

So why did AMG insist on building it this way? Why fight for years to homologate a true F1-style powertrain for the road — even sacrificing US certification — just to keep the Formula 1 DNA intact?

In this video, we explore exactly that. We’ll cover:

The #F1-derived 1.6-litre V6 hybrid architecture
How the electric turbocharger works in a road car
The 1,063hp system layout and power delivery
AMG’s pushrod suspension and active aero system
Race, Race Plus and Strat 2 modes
What EV mode actually feels like in a Formula 1-based hypercar
And what it’s like to follow Bernd Schneider in a GT Black Series around the Nürburgring

Performance figures:

0–60 mph: 2.9 seconds
0–200 km/h: 7.0 seconds
0–300 km/h: 15.6 seconds
Top speed: 219 mph

EV-only driving is possible via the 8.4kWh battery, offering up to 18km of range — a surreal experience in something that shares its core architecture with a championship-winning F1 engine.
Driving the AMG ONE was almost an out-of-body experience. The brutality of the drivetrain, the mechanical edge of the gearbox, the immediacy of the steering and the relentless hybrid surge combine into something that simply doesn’t feel like a normal production car.

This isn’t about comparing it to a LaFerrari, 918 or 765LT. It’s about what happens when you step out of an A45, C63 or AMG GT… and into the closest thing to a modern Formula 1 car ever made road legal.

Is it a future classic? Or was it too ambitious for its time? Let’s find out.
