Creepypastas are short horror stories collected and shared across the internet with the intention of scaring or unsettling the reader. The name comes from the internet slang term "copypaste," which refers to text that has been copied and pasted by users on discussion forums multiple times. They are similar to urban legends, although they don't always take the form of written text or narration; some creepypastas come in the form of supposedly haunted images, videos, or video games. Creepypastas are presented in a variety of styles, some of which are particularly common. "Haunted images" are stories that include an image that is supposed to haunt and torment the reader. The reader is sometimes disturbed by so-called "lost episodes," stories about discarded episodes of television series, usually cartoons. The lost episodes are intended to unsettle the reader by deviating from the characters' usual behavior, focusing on death, and including hyperrealistic images of the series' characters. The "invocations" are creepypastas about procedures for manifesting entities or paranormal experiences.
