This video explains the use of a PNG file [a grungy shape] to mask a photo. I will explain three different ways to achieve the mask in Affinity designer - as a 'clipping mask', a 'mask to below', and a 'raster mask'.
Most of the functionality shown in the video can be created with other software tools such as Adobe's Illustrator, CorelDraw, or Inkscape with minor alterations and different names for the tools used.
