Installing "custom" support plates for cam locks to provide greater stabilization
One of the main (and common) problems with installing standard wafer/pin cam locks in wood is when the spur washer strips the wood on the back which allows the lock to rotate freely in the hole.
There are one or two companies that make a "double D" cutout backer support plate, however I luckily have hundreds of these faceplates and they work just fine. One thing, the most readily available D plate I'm actually not overly fond of them because of the dimensions & thickness.
I've installed these faceplates on locks that required almost monthly maintenance & it perfectly fixes the problem. In this particular case, I decided to mortise the plate in because of clearance issues, but on some installations surface mounting works fine!
