Have you noticed that Amazon ranks in one of the top three positions in almost every eCommerce search result on Google?
Generic searches like “dirt bikes” trigger category page results so Amazon can take all of their “dirt bike” products and make a category out of it.
Once they’ve done that 350,000 times they basically own any product-oriented keyword in Google or Bing.
This is a tactic that we see pretty heavily across many enterprise eCommerce sites; brands leverage their internal search data to create landing and category pages.
What’s great about Amazon is the fact that these landing pages will be nothing but relevant products; they have such rich data (e.g., reviews, questions, videos, images, product details) that they can put on these pages. These pages are robust, with lots of structured data on them.
