To have it all for two terms – both houses of parliament, the government, the presidency, the state media, the National Council of the Judiciary, the Constitutional Tribunal… – and then lose it all because nothing lasting was built in those eight years is an epic situation. But while losing everything, you still stubbornly deny your defeat, refuse to discuss your mistakes, and wallow in bitterness… This truly deserves attention.
The key to this explanation lies in the words of the late Ludwik Dorn, for many years the "third twin," who explained the political actions of the Centre Agreement, and later the Law and Justice party, as the need to "block the right wing of the political scene" so that the "National Democrat" right could not resurface. This is the founding sin of Kaczyński's policies, essentially the same "intelligentsia politics" that the Geremek-Kuroń-Michnik trinity built in the 1990s, only in a "light" version and employing different symbols.
