"History Project" by KathyJetnil-Kijiner at Southbank Centre for London 2012 Poetry Parnassus
Kathy writes, "During the period from June 30, 1946, to August 18, 1958, the United States conducted 67 nuclear tests in the Marshall Islands, all of which were considered atmospheric. The most powerful of those tests was the "Bravo" shot, a 15 megaton device detonated on March 1, 1954, at Bikini atoll. The US continues to deny responsibility while many more Marshallese continue to die due to cancer and other radiation related illnesses."
Kathy Jetnil-Kijiner is a poet from Marshall Islands. I ran into this young talented artist while I was in London for Poetry Parnassus, the biggest gathering of poets from over 160 countries. I was documenting Kosal Khiev's journey at the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad. We filmed two spoken word pieces of Kathy's in one evening. This is the second piece.
