Feats Of Clay
Feats of Clay is an annual event organized by local teachers as a means to celebrate ceramic art in Central New York. Each year, a teacher-juried exhibition of high school ceramics begins with an opening reception for the students and their families. A silent auction of ceramic works donated by local teachers, as well as the 'Feats of Clay' tee shirt sale helps fund annual student awards and prizes.
In May, participating schools converge on the Quad at Onondaga Community College to compete in the 'Feats of Clay Olympics'. Events including the 'cylinder stack', the 'no hands throw', and the mug production' have been student favorites for years. The school that wins the day's events are presented with the trophy by the previous year's winners. They will house the trophy for the year and add something significant to it.
The event has been hosted by Syracuse University, the Everson Museum of Art and is currently in its seventh year at Onondaga Community College. 'Feats of Clay' is supported by Onondaga Community College, Clayscapes Pottery and the Syracuse Ceramic Guild.
