Ark: Survival Evolved is an action-adventure survival video game developed and published by Studio Wildcard. It was originally scheduled for release in late 2016 and was planned for Linux, Microsoft Windows, OS X, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.[1] The game has been in Early Access on Steam since June 3, 2015, and has been part of the Xbox One Game Preview program since December 16, 2015. The goal is to survive in a world full of free-roaming extinct animals, especially dinosaurs.
The game can be played from either a third-person or first-person perspective. Movement is possible on foot, by horseback, or by flying or swimming on an animal. Players can use melee and ranged weapons to defend themselves against aggressive creatures and other players. Many of the creatures can be tamed, granting the player access to the respective animal's abilities. Players can also expand their arsenal of weapons and other items using objects gathered from the environment. A comprehensive building system allows players to construct their own structures and use them for defense. The game features both a single-player mode and the option to play with other players on multiplayer servers. ARK servers are persistent; the game world continues to change even when no players are online.
Development of the game began in October 2014. The development team focused on creating the most realistic depiction of the dinosaurs possible.
