DRAGUNOV100: MA COMPACT ASSAULT RIFLE
The whole world knows Yevgeny Dragunov as the creator of the legendary SVD. But Yevgeny Fedorovich worked on more than just military and sporting rifles. He created a unique assault rifle back in the 1970s that was truly ahead of its time.
The MA assault rifle was developed as part of a separate project initiated by TsNIITochMash, a "compact assault rifle with extensive use of plastic." It featured an unconventional receiver design and was lighter than the AKS-74U. And now, forty years later, it has proven that this configuration offers the most effective solution for mounting modern sighting systems—collimators and optics.
In the 21st century, Dragunov's unconventional design solutions have been revived and found application in the AM-17 and AMB-17 models, which utilize the same layout as the MA.
